They all knew when they were building it that Galt Place would be someplace special, and from inception the project has been blessed by a myriad of funding and financing mechanisms that today are not available.

Upon completion, Galt Place was recognized as the wave for the future for building in Galt, with facades to match the old town period of days gone by, and prices that keep Galt seniors independent, safe and having fun.

While Galt planners, builders and senior citizen residents have known Galt Place would become the jewel of old town, they didn’t know that the building was catching the attention of some people who have an appreciation for such things as how a building is constructed, placed and used.

On Dec. 15, the city of Galt found out just how much attention Galt Place was the recipient of a Special Recognition Award at a breakfast reception honoring all of the 2011 SACOG Salutes! recipients.

SACOG Salutes! began in 1999 as a way of acknowledging and honoring examples of outstanding and innovative land use, transportation and air-quality planning and programs and activism throughout the six-county SACOG territory.

Galt Place fell into the “Smart Growth” category characteristics as an infill development project in historic old town Galt.

Galt Place offers housing diversity in Galt like none before. With 80 affordable senior housing units, one and two bedroom, located right near retail and transportation opportunities, as it is located above a ground floor of commercial/retail shops set to be filled and opened, including the Velvet Creamery, L’Chayim Ladies Drop In Center, Golden Horizon Mortgage and Stephanie Moe Photography.

The SACOG award was presented to individuals and organizations whose achievements and innovations made a significant difference in the Sacramento Region in 2011.

“The Galt City Council was supportive of Galt Place since its inception and looks forward to many other innovative development projects in the city,” said Galt City Clerk Elizabeth Aguire. “Galt staff is proud to accept the award on behalf of the city and the development team of CYF development and Applied Architecture designer of the project. The city is grateful to CYF Development for sharing in the city’s vision, and using their vast expertise to build a project like this in Galt.”
